Conference Overview

In order to draw distinctions between principles, one must know what those principles are and why they are held.  Those engaged in promoting what we would call the ‘culture of death’ do not believe they are doing any such thing:  they have sincere intentions to do ‘good.’   What they actually think is ‘good’ and how they try to achieve that ‘good’ flows naturally from their guiding principles and beliefs.

Over against those people are those who adhere to a ‘culture of life.’  The ‘culture of life’ is the natural manifestation of a thorough-going biblical worldview.  It is not the product of ‘proof-texting’ but rather comes from a coherent, integrated understanding of the Scriptures in their totality.

In order to effectively chart a way forward, it is necessary to understand what is driving the ‘culture of death’ and what it is about our own worldview that not merely forbids us from going along with them, but calls us to actively oppose them.

The first two parts of the conference delve into these differences in worldviews and the foundation for each is explored and shown how they tie into life issues in general.  Examples of how those differences manifested in the past will be provided.  The third part will more specifically illustrate how those principles speak to particular issues of the day:  abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, ‘personhood’, etc.  The fourth and final part will be a panel discussion where specific, concrete, practical, steps for action are discussed.

Two guided discussion periods will provide conference participants the opportunity to synthesize what they have heard, connect with each other, and perhaps delve deeper into some of the issues raised in the conference.
